THOUBAL, Feb 2 : Lodging FIR for encouraging and appreciating the police for busting drug rackets is a shocker, said Ksh Kennedy, ex-candidate of the INC.
Speaking to media persons yesterday at the office of the Block Congress Committee Kakching, he said there were no reasons for the police to file FIR against MPCC president MLA K Meghachandra and him.
“Kakching district police had arrested five cops with drugs worth crores of rupees on January 16. Soon after the bust, I along with MLA K Meghachadra went to congratulate Kakching SP. The SP welcomed us. We had tea and we congratulated him [SP]. We also encouraged him to swiftly investigate the case. This was  it. We were not hindering the police from performing their duty,” Ksh Kennedy said.
Registering FIR for encouraging the police is shocking, he said.
There are many unsolved drug cases in Manipur, and as such the Congress was apprehensive that this case would go unsolved. So, it had urged the Government to let the CBI handle the case. But, it doesn't matter who handles the case as long as the case is solved and the ‘real owner’ of the drugs is revealed, Kennedy said.
The Government may form a commission or let the police investigate the case. If the police are able to solve the case and find the ‘owner of the drugs’, then it would also help clear the image of the police with the public, he added.
The Congress supports the Government’s War on Drugs. However, to curb drug menace, there is no need for War on Drugs 1, 2 or 3. Instead leaders should be willing and sincere.
Members of Congress of Kakching, Hiyanglam and Wabagai Block attended the press meet.
