Heroin worth Rs 5 crore confiscated

Shillong, Feb 8: The East Jaintia Hills district police today arrested one person with more than 1 kg of heroin worth over Rs 5 crore.
In an intelligence-based night-long operation, the ANTF team of East Jaintia Hills under the supervision of the Additional Superintendent of Police Banraplang Jyrwa alongside the staff of Ladrymbai Outpost were able to detect a big consignment of 100 soap boxes containing heroin weighing 1040 grams from Albert Lalro of Mizoram in the wee hours today at the Indian Oil Petrol Pump opposite Friends Hotel and Restaurant, Lad Rymbai, district police chief Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said.
One mobile phone and cash amounting to Rs 2,550 was also seized from his possession, the police officer also said.
The police officer informed that a case has been registered under appropriate sections of the NDPS Act and an investigation is on to trace the forward and backward linkages.
