Concerns raised on involvement of youths in illegal drug trade

IMPHAL, Mar 30: A youth meeting cum anti drug awareness programme on the theme 'Ereichasing Mikap Thoklasi' at Manipur Press Club today.
The programme was organised by Lamyanba Irawat Memorial Integrated Trust (LIMIT).
Imphal East SP Kshetrimayum Shivakanta while speaking as the chief guest of the programme emphasized that the youths play a pivotal role in anti-drug awareness campaigns.
He stressed on the need of raising mass awareness to prevent the youths from indulging in illegal trade of drugs.
In this context, the parents/guardians should keep a strict vigil over their child to ensure that they are following the right and progressive path, he maintained.
Expressing that only the State or the Police cannot check the drug menace in the State, he called for cohesive efforts from all to tackle drug menace which has become an issue of grave concern.
Speaking in connection with the programme, LIMIT president Malem Thongam said that the youth meeting has been organised with the sole objective to save the youths from falling prey to drug abuse.
Raising concern over the involvement of youths in the illegal drug business and youths being used as easy targets, he said that every resident should work earnestly to ensure that every locality/neighbourhood becomes drug free.
Attending the programme as one of the presidium members, All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup president Lourembam Nganbi opined that the War on Drug campaign cannot be carried out effectively with the support of civil society organisations, meira paibis and students etc.
Speaking as the guest of honour, United Committee Manipur (UCM) president Joychandra Konthoujam urged all to make collective efforts to fight against drug abuse for the welfare of the natives and the State as a whole.
