Schools closed in show of solidarity to Seigunlal

IMP/KPI, Mar 30: Condemning the killing of Seigunlal Misao and showing solidarity to the bereaved family, all private schools located in Kangpokpi district were closed today.
Seigunlal Misao who was reading in Class XII at Damdei Christian College was shot dead on March 25.
Rejecting the allegation that Seigunlal Misao was a drug peddler, the Sadar Hills Private Schools Association condemned the murder in the strongest term at a condolence meeting held at the Motbung Bazar residence of the late student today.
Sadar Hills Private Schools Association president Khupthang Sitlhou, while pointing out that the student was called out from him home and shot dead mercilessly, questioned the security of students in Kangpokpi district.
While Seigunlal’s father is confined at home after he suffered a stroke, his (Seigunlal) mother has been struggling to make both ends meet by selling vegetables.
Seigunlal was the only child of his parents and the charge that he was a drug peddler is a wild allegation,    Khupthang Sitlhou said.
Seigunlal even asked Rs 50 from his mother on the day he was shot dead. Had he been really a drug peddler, people of the locality would have known it, Khupthang said.
Neither Seigunlal’s school nor his local people detected even the slightest indication of him being a drug pusher, Khupthang continued.
He then appealed to the State Government to extend all possible assistance to the bereaved parents and pull up all the culprits involved in the murder of Seigunlal.
It is highly condemnable that a particular outfit awarded capital punishment to a young student on the charge of being a drug peddler, Khupthang decried.
Meanwhile the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the brutal murder of Seigunlal Misao has decided to launch a peaceful sit-in-protest from Friday in the entire district of Kangpokpi one after another.
The decision according to the JAC came in the backdrop of the alleged State Government's failure to nab the culprits within three days as assured by Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Speaking to the media, Kamchon Kipgen, a member of the JAC said that Chief Minister N Biren had assured to nab the culprits involved in the brutal murder of Seigunlal Misao within three days but till now despite the NRFM openly claiming responsibility over the merciless killing, no arrest was made even after almost a week.
“Therefore, the JAC has decided to launch a peaceful sit-in-protest to show our discontentment and also demand early arrest of the culprits from March 31, 2023, in collaboration with all the educational institutions of the district”, Kamchon Kipgen said.
He said that the sit-in-protest would kick off at Motbung Model village on March 31 and it will be simultaneously carried out area-wise in the entire district.
He also said that if the state Government still fails to nab the culprits even after the peaceful sit-in-protest, then the JAC along with various civil society organizations will decide further course of action.
He further said that students from various private educational institutions will take part in the peaceful sit-in-protest which will be held at Motbung, Saparmeina, Keithelmanbi and Kangpokpi district headquarters.
While responding to a query about the dead body of the slain juvenile, the JAC member said that there is no question of claiming the dead body as of now.
