IMPHAL, Mar 31: The residents affected by the land demarcation for the conversion of double lane of Inter-village road (IVR) along the eastern bank of Imphal River from Sanjenthong to Minuthong as a part of the Imphal Smart City project have claimed that they are not 'encroachers'.
The above claim was made by Boyes Kom, convenor of the Joint Action Committee for the Conservation of Minuthong Mana Ingkhol, Golapati, KR Lane, New Lambulane, Dimdailong, Namthanpung, Mission Lane and Sanjenthong Meitei Leikai  today during a press meet held today at KR Lane.
Expressing concern over the alleged acts of portraying the affected residents by the land demarcation as encroachers, he appealed to all concerned to refrain from carrying out such acts.
Stating that the residents welcome the developmental measures of the Government initiated under the Imphal Smart City project, Boyes Kom maintained that the residents have been appealing to the Government to reduce the number of feet set by the authorities concerned to ensure that no large scale damage is incurred by the residents while taking up this project. He also sought the attention of Chief Minister N Biren to look into the matter and take up the project acknowledging the humanitarian aspect so that the residents from different communities who have been residing along this stretch of road for the past many decades do not become homeless.
