A team of the Singngat police headed by its OC Inspector Thangpu Tonsing, began checking vehicles moving along the Tiddim Road at Sumchinvum village from 10.30 pm after they received information that illicit drugs would be transported along the route.
At about 11.30 pm two scooties - a Dio and an Activa were intercepted by the team.
On checking the scooties, 286 and 143 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar were recovered.

The two consignments of brown sugar that were seized weighed 5.143 Kgs, sources informed.
As the two arrested people claimed that their consignments were meant to be handed over to a Bolero and a Gypsy near Haijang village, the police team went to the particular area and found the two vehicles.
However, no one was there when they arrived. The occupants seemed to have abandoned their vehicles and escaped from the spot after seeing the police, said the source.
Nonetheless, the vehicles were impounded and an FIR was registered at Singngat police station.
