Ashwajit Senjam wins Jalandhar National Series' U-18 title

IMPHAL, May 21 : Manipur's Ashwajit Senjam clinched the U-18 singles title at the AITA National Series Tournament which was held from May 15 to 20 in Jalandhar.
The 16 year old lad from Manipur earned the top honour in the U-18 singles competition with a comeback 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4)  win over third seed Arjun Rathi of Haryana in the final yesterday.
Earlier in the semi-final, Ashwajit Senjam outclassed top seeded Keshav Goel of West Bengal 6-2, 6-2 to storm into the final. It was another feather to the cap of the State lad who had won some National series trophies earlier.
Ashwajit, who rose to his career high 2588 ITF ranking earlier this year (as on January 9, 2023) and was 3001 as on May 15, started playing tennis at the age of 8 with the encouragement from his family members and under the supervision of Manipur Tennis Association and Imphal District Tennis Association. He had also won many titles in various age group State level competitions.
Ashwajit, born to Dr Senjam Gojendro and Dr Longjam Ishwari of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai, is currently training under coach Y Romen at Jalandhar Lawn Tennis Club.
He is reading in Class XII at DAV Public School, Chandigarh.
