Cops hurt in gunfight, explosion

IMPHAL, May 31: At a time when Union Home Minister Amit Shah is in the State holding talks with civil society organisations of different communities to bring peace, Kuki militants still continue to launch attacks on civilians and security personnel today.
At least five State commandos sustained bullet wounds in a gunfight with suspected Kuki militants at Tangjeng Chingya under Kumbi police station, today.
Some of the injured commandos have been identified as Sub Inspector S Gyanendra alias Tomba (43), s/o Mangijao of Moirangkhunou Mamang Sabal,  Rifleman Elia Long alias Alex, s/o Namheiding of Senapati, Havildar Gojendro of Tronglaobi, Rifleman Janaranjan of Wangoo and Rifleman Prashanta.
It is reported that the gunfight ensued while launching an operation to push back the Kuki militants stationed at Tangjeng Khunjao, Tangjeng Chingya and Napat.
According to a report culled from the spot, some of the militants wore lungi and they are suspected to be Myanmar Nationals.
The injured have been taken to Imphal for further treatment after giving first aid at Jeevan Hospital Kakching, National Charitable Hospital, Moirang and PHC Wangoo.
The gunfight was on till the time of filing this report.
In another attack by Kuki militants, one personnel of Imphal West commandos sustained bullet injury in his leg and is undergoing treatment at RIMS  Hospital. His condition is said to be stable.
According to the sources, well armed Kuki militants fired at a team of Imphal West commandos at Kanglatongbi Shantipur this afternoon.
A reinforcement team of Imphal West commandos rushed to the spot and joined the gunfight that lasted several minutes before the Kuki militants fled from the spot.
Meanwhile, a heavy gunfight between a combined team of security forces and Kuki militants took place at Chanung area under Imphal East. While there is no report of anyone injured, the gunfight was still taking place till the time of filing this report.
According a report published by HY News, three of the commandos  were injured in a pipe bomb explosion suspected to be planted by Kuki militants.
The pipe bomb detonated at around 2 pm in the Chingujao area between Tangjeng Ahallup and Leisan Tampak of Bishnupur district, said the report.
While two of the commando personnel were rushed to Jivan Hospital Kakching before evacuating to Raj Medicity, the other was taken to a hospital in Imphal.
The two who were evacuated to Jivan Hospital Kakching have been identified as SI Salam Gyanandra son of S Mangijao of Moirang Khunou Mamang Sabal Leikai and Elialong, son of Namheiding of Senapati, according to HY News.
