Tri-color hoisted to welcome Shah

KANGPOKPI, May 30: More than 10 villages belonging to the Kuki community were reportedly attacked and burnt down when people of Kangpokpi were engaged in putting up the tricolor to welcome the Union Home Minister tomorrow at the district Headquarters.
S Bongjang, Saichang, L Songphel, Kamu Saichang, Nongdam Kuki, Maphou Kuki, Molnom, Molkon, Chaningpokpi, and Beulahland villages under the Island sub-division in Kangpokpi district were reportedly attacked and their houses burnt down by the Meitei "radicalized groups".
Meanwhile, displaying their faith in the Constitution of India, the people of Kangpokpi hoisted the National Flag at Brig M Thomas ground at Kangpokpi town where the Union Home Minister is expected to land on his arrival in the district.
The youths are also seen putting up the tricolor all along the roadside as well, while a myriad of banners was also seen put up to greet the Union Home Minister.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to land at Kangpokpi town at around 1 pm tomorrow afternoon where various prominent civil society organizations and Kuki leaders are expected to meet him.
Speaking to the media, spokesperson of the Committee on Tribals Unity, Sadar Hills, Rev K Sitlhou said, "We are in such a situation where survival matters, so, we need Constitutional protection and we have high hope from Union Home Minister that the tripartite talks with the UPF and KNO and the Governments will soon culminate in a solution. This is our only hope of getting Constitutional protection."
Talking about the agendas the committee will put up with the visiting Home Minister, Sitlhou said, "The ground reality of the violence with numerous evidence has already been submitted to various Central agencies and I believe all the evidence submitted is enough for the Union Home Minister to judge or know as to who is wrong or right."
He then said that as all the evidence might have come to the knowledge of the Union Home Minister, and expressed strongly belief that the plight of the Kuki people will be addressed with a permanent solution.
Meanwhile, another civil society organization leader said that while welcoming the Union Home Minister, we will remind him that this part of the country needs his protection.
"Please listen to our cry as we remind ourselves that under the flattering tricolor, we shall be protected, and our cry will be heard and just prevail," he said.
He said, "We expect our Home Minister to acknowledge that there is physical and social separation already in Manipur. We have high expectations that considering such separation, he will grant us a separate form of administration so that we may be able to protect ourselves under the Constitution of India and under the fluttering tricolor."
