Silent protest, peace rally organised

THOUBAL, May 31: A large number of Womens' Force Thoubal district members gathered today in a silent protest at Thoubal mela ground urging Union Home Minister Amit Shah to "take immediate and appropriate decision" and resolve the conflict.
Women hailing from different localities of Thoubal district joined the protest wherein they all sat in meaningful silence with black cloths over their mouths.
The protestors also held many placards highlighting their views which include, "We oppose killing of innocent civilians", "Stop barbarism", "State integrity must be protected", "Stop bloodshed in Manipur" etc.
Speaking in this connection, Laishram Sushila, member, Womens' Force Thoubal called for a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict while also stressing on the hardships suffered by women as a result.
Locals of Salungpham also staged a peace rally demanding withdrawal of SoO pact, imposition of NRC in Manipur and opposing the creation of a separate administration in Manipur.
The peace rally was jointly organised by local clubs of Salungpham namely UCO, AMAWOVA and Salungpham meira paibis.
It was flagged off from Salungpham Mathak Leikai and culminated at the starting point after passing through numerous villages in Salungpham area.
An unnamed rallyist has stated that the people want speedy restoration of peace in Manipur. Further she went on to decry the alleged prejudiced attitude of Central Paramilitary Forces.
The rally goers also held many placards with messages such as "Pull out CPF", "Impose NRC in Manipur", "Restore peace in Manipur" and "Abrogate SoO pact".
Separately, All Samaram Meira Paibi Lup also staged a sit-in protest calling for withdrawal of Assam Rifles and granting additional powers to the State forces.
Notably, the protestors also visited the home of (L) Heigrujam Robinsana from Khongjom Keithal who was recently killed by suspected Kuki militants and extended aid to the bereaved family.
