The NCC, NSS Units I, II and III, Youth Red Cross and Eco Club of Moirang College reached out to tourists places, historical and heritage sites at Moirang today morning along with the Principal, teachers, staff and student union members of the college and carried out cleanliness drive.
During the campaign on the theme ‘Garbage Free India’, the students cleaned the tourists’ places at Sendra, INA complex and INA Head Quarters at Moirang where hundreds of public footfalls are recorded every day, said a press release by the College.
The cleanliness campaign was taken up as a part of the series of activities taken up by Moirang College students in addition to classroom learning in line with the fortnightly long Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) Pakhwada launched on September 15.
Flagging off the programme, Moirang College Principal, Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh reiterated that Moirang is a culturally significant historical place in Manipur where thousands of tourists come every year and students of the college should take up the responsibility of maintaining these important places of Moirang neat and clean.
It is worth noting that Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) Pakhwada campaign was launched from the College campus on September 17, 2023 with focus on visual cleanliness and welfare of Safai Mitras by cleaning the college campus where 950 displaced people are currently taking refuge at the relief camp opened in the campus.
The thought behind the campaign is to mobilize the participation of citizens across the country through activities such as Indian Swachhata League 2.0, SafaiMitra Suraksha Shivir, and cleanliness drives.
