IMPHAL, Apr 16 : The Hills and Valley Relief Demand Committee (HVRDC), Manipur has urged the State Government to release the 'sanctioned relief assistance for the 2019 drought victims' by the end of this month.
HVRDC, in a statement, said that they are highly aggrieved and astonished at the State Government's apathy towards the suffering of the '2019 drought victims.'
As per the Committee, the State Government declared drought in 2019.
Stating that the State Government had submitted a proposal for grant of relief assistance to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the HVRDC continued that the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) sanctioned relief assistance amounting to Rs 26.53 crore vide order dated May 27, 2020.
The Relief and Disaster Management of the State Government accorded administration approval and expenditure sanction, it claimed.
It went on to state that the State Government is withholding the  release of the already sanctioned and relief assistance even after the matter was raised in the second session of the State Legislative Assembly in 2023.
The Committee further said they will take up the matter with MHA  for immediate redressal of the pending issue if the State Govt fails to release the sanctioned relief assistance.
