Workshop on Thang-Ta and Sarit Sarat concludes

A workshop on "Thang-Ta and Sarit Sarak" conducted by the Mangam Thang-Ta Lup at Irom Meijrao Thang-Ta Shanglen came to an end today.
The workshop was organised under the sponsorship of Sangeet Natak Academi, New Delhi from April 14.
The valedictory function of the workshop programme was attended by Laishram Lashamon, secretary, Huyen Lanjang Thang-Ta Association, Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak; Thiyam Kora, president, Thang-Ta and Cultural Association, Thiyam Leishangkhong; Shandam Ibomcha, president Universal Huyel Langlon Academy, Samurou; Sougrakpam Rani Chanu, a local representative as dignitaries.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Laishram stressed on the health benefits of practicing age-old indigenous games of Meiteis including Thang-Ta, Sarit-Sarat, Mukna, Mukna Kangjei etc.
He also noted how the games were an essential part of Meitei society in olden days and how they had helped Meitei warriors to remain physically and mentally prepared even if they were unarmed. Teaching intricate aspects of offence, self defence, plannings etc contained in Huyel Langlon, Thang-Ta and Sarit Sarak to the present generation may prove beneficial, he suggested.
Colourful cultural programmes were also displayed as a part of the programme, said Mangan Thang-Ta Lup in a statement.
