IMPHAL, Apr 24: High Court of Manipur Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul visited a relief camp opened at Ideal Girls' College at Akampat, Imphal East district and interacted with the displaced today.
The relief camp, being run by the district administration, has displaced people of Moreh and Churachandpur district.
During the visit at the elif camp, Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul inquired about the needs and grievances of the inmates.
The inmates narrated the ordeal they faced on May 3, 2023 and how they fled Moreh and Churachandpur for their lives.
They sought justice from the Chief Justice and asked him to allow them to return to their villages and homes. They also told him that they have been left with no means of earning livelihood.
After interacting with the displaced people, Chief Justice Mridul told reporters that he has seen the pain and suffering of the displaced folks and understands them.
For bringing about the condition to enable the displaced people to return to their homes, disarmament is required, he said.
While disarmament and providing relief materials to inmates are political processes and duty of the administration, the High Court's duty is to supplement and improve the welfare activities being taken up by the Government, he said.
To improve and maintain law and order in Manipur, the Supreme Court has issued orders from time to time and has appointed a committee to look into the conflict and the welfare measures of the displaced people. Here, the High Court is serving as a link between the Supreme Court appointed committee and the displaced people, he said.
The Chief Justice continued that the High Court will take steps to make education more accessible to students at relief camps, besides other measures to improve the overall condition of the camps.
Justice A Bimol, Justice A Guneshwar Sharma  and Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu and members of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) accompanied the Chief Justice during the visit.
