Missing village volunteer found dead with head injury

IMPHAL, Apr 27: A village volunteer who went missing last night after Kuki militants attacked Sinam village has been found dead today.
The village volunteer, 32, has been identified as Laishram Bomcha alias Prem of Sinam Mamang Leikai.
His body, with head injury, was recovered from the bottom of a steep gorge at Meikham Mark Hill by security personnel today morning.
Bomcha may have fallen into the gorge injuring him fatally on the head, said sources.
Reliable sources said heavily armed Kuki militants fired towards Sinam village at around 4.45 pm yesterday from Meikham Mark Hill.
Village volunteers guarding Sinam and adjoining villages retaliated, and Bomcha was among many who pursued the militants and pushed them back to deter further attack on the village.
He was found to be missing when the volunteers returned after successfully pushing back the militants.
A search operation was also launched by the village volunteers to trace him.
Today morning, security personnel carried out a massive search operation to trace him.
During the search, the lifeless body of Bomcha was found in the bottom of a gorge at Meikham Mark Hill, under Sagolmang police station.
His remains were recovered and taken to JNIMS Hospital and later handed over to family members after the post mortem was conducted at the hospital mortuary.
Meanwhile, the mortal remains of the deceased village volunteer were laid to rest at Yumnam Patlou this evening.
