Guwahati, Nov 9: In a significant development in Mizoram’s ongoing efforts against cross-border drug trafficking, police have apprehended another key suspect connected to the State’s largest heroin seizure.
Mizoram Police on Friday confirmed that Joseph Lianthangpuia (42) from Chanakya Place, New Delhi, was taken into custody in the National capital on November 5.
He has been linked to Saitual Police Station Case No. 63/2025, registered under Sections 21(c), 25, and 29 of the ND&PS Act along with Section 14 of the Foreigners Act.
The case revolves around the recovery of 15 kg of heroin from a vehicle in August this year, marking the biggest drug haul in Mizoram’s history. The drugs were seized on August 23 from a vehicle (registration MZ-01X-1909) driven by Lalliancheua (20), son of Challianzula from Falam, Myanmar. The incident revealed a well-structured drug trafficking network operating along the India-Myanmar border. This arrest comes shortly after another operation earlier this week, which saw Lalchhuanthangi (50), a suspected drug kingpin from Aizawl now in New Delhi, being apprehended in a separate case. NE NOW
