IMPHAL, Nov 21 : In its fourth operation against illegal poppy cultivation at Kangpokpi today, the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) intercepted poppy cultivators, a majority of whom were unable to speak the Manipuri language, thus raising suspicions about their identity.
In a press release, ZUF asserted that their inability to speak the lingua franca and official language of the State has unmistakably exposed their identity as "foreign refugees and illegal intruders" engaged in illicit drug cultivation on their ancestral land.
The operation was carried out in Pongringlong (Charoipandongba), Saitu Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi at 10.30 am led by S Kamson.
All illicit farms, structures, and stored materials were demolished by ZUF.
Moreover, ZUF has accused "illegal immigrant groups" of continuing to encroach, deforest, and occupy the large space in the Zeliangrong-Inpui ancestral land without consent.
“Their fabricated claims of authority, including self-declared 'village chief' (Ningthou) status, in the recently settled sites are baseless and invalid”, said ZUF.
It has, once again, called upon all indigenous communities of the hills and valley to remain united, vigilant, and resolute in protecting their ancestral homeland.
