IMPHAL, Nov 26: A day after a police bus ran over and killed one female student and critically injured another, several organisations now have demanded the authorities concerned to book and punish the police personnel involved in the accident.
The bus driver and the police personnel involved in the accident including a woman traffic police personnel who allegedly dragged the body of the deceased student "like a log" on the road must be identified and terminated from service within 48 hours, said Kangleipak Minority Welfare Organisation (KMWO) in a statement.
Notably, the road accident occurred on the Asian Highway-1 in front of the Thoubal Fire Service Station at around 2 pm yesterday.
The bus, carrying police personnel from Imphal to Kakching, hit and ran over two female Class XI students of Fancier Higher Secondary School.
It killed Singamayum Sarina, daughter of Md Azimuddin of Yairipok Singa, and critically injured Singamayum Nasima, daughter of Md Zamin Khan.
Nasima also hails from Yairipok Singa and is receiving treatment in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) at Raj Medicity Imphal.
Demanding strict action against all police personnel involved in the accident, the Singa Ideal Club (SIC), in a statement, has meanwhile informed that a Joint Action Committee (JAC) in the connection with the incident has been formed.
The club alleged that the bus, after knocking down the two female students, fled the scene without any effort taken to evacuate the injured and treat the deceased with dignity and respect.
The police personnel along with one woman traffic police personnel "dragged the body of the deceased student like a log" to clear the road and for the bus to flee the scene, said the club.
The Government and the relevant departments must take strict actions against all personnel involved, the club added.
