IMPHAL, Nov 26: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra has asserted that the citizens of Manipur are being denied several fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
The MPCC today observed the National Constitution Day/National Law Day as Samvidhan Bachao Divas at Congress Bhavan, BT Road.
The function held in honour Dr BR Ambedkar and other architects of the Constitution was attended by representatives of several MPCC cells, departments, frontal organisations and many Congress workers.
Speaking at the function, MPCC president K Meghachandra said that the Constitution is losing its value in the country.
“We are observing Samvidhan Bachao Divas in order to save the Constitution”, he said.
The Constitution is the soul of democracy and when there is no democracy, citizens will be deprived of all their rights, Meghachandra said.
He said that democracy is losing its meaning in Manipur as well as across the country since BJP came to power.
All departments of the Government of Manipur are highly corrupted and huge funds sanctioned by the Centre are being misused. As a result, no development works can be implemented properly, he said.
The MPCC president said that the Congress party will work relentlessly to see that all the people belonging to different communities and faiths can enjoy all the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
The Congress party will work tirelessly to save the Constitution, he said.
He then called upon all the people and communities of Manipur to be wary of BJP’s divisive policies.
Meghachandra called upon all sections of the society to work collectively to protect the rights of tribals, IDPs as well as all weaker sections.
He appealed to one and all to stand firm for unity and integrity of Manipur.
The State’s law and order situation is still quite volatile and the IDPs have been suffering untold misery for more than two years. The IDPs are being denied their fundamental rights all these days, Meghachandra said.
MPCC Legal Department Chairman Advocate Shyamcharan said that the beautiful Constitution is facing a very uncertain future under the BJP Government.
The situation in Manipur is such that there is no Constitution at all and there have been several instances of violation of the Constitution, he said. He also called upon all to stand together in order to save the Constitution.
