IMPHAL, Nov 26: The Manipur Sangai Festival 2025 is being organised by the Government at its wisdom, and the people may or may not go to the festival as per their wish, stated ex-Chief Minister N Biren.
Speaking to media persons after a Constitution Day observation held at MSFDS auditorium, Palace Compound today, Biren said that India is a democratic country, and the people may or may not go to Sangai Festival.
He asserted that police should never commit excesses against citizens.
“As a politician and a public leader, I’m telling police not to commit excesses against citizens”, Biren said.
It is imperative for all police personnel to be friendly to and interactive with citizens, he asserted.
He said that it was important to remember those people who drafted and protected the Constitution on this day (Constitution Day).
The Constitution drafted by Dr BR Ambedkar laid a strong foundation for justice, liberty, equality and fraternity, Biren said.
The Constitution protects human rights, safeguards institutions and promotes social justice. The Constitution is also the source of power, the ex-Chief Minister said.
The Constitution teaches youth social responsibility, lays the framework for mutual respect among diverse communities and promotes equality, he said.
Biren said that all the people should work collectively to further strengthen democracy.
Collective efforts can certainly lay a strong foundation for justice and equality, he added.
