AR camp comes under attack, 4 hurt

IMPHAL, Nov 28 : At least 4 personnel of the 3rd Assam Rifles were injured when unidentified persons suspected to members of an underground outfit attacked their Yangoupokpi camp located in between Indo- Myanmar border pillar numbers 85 and 86 early this morning.
The particular 3rd AR camp is located at a bordering area of Kamjong and Tengnoupal districts border
Heavily armed unknown persons suspected to be members of an underground outfit attacked the Yangoupokpi camp of 3rd Assam Rifles located in between N Saibol and Maringthel/ Moirangthel villages, Tengnoupal district under Tengnoupal police station at around 5.30 am today, sources said.
The unidentified attackers used rocket propelled grenade launchers, drones and automatic assault rifles, said the sources.
As the AR troops retaliated, there was heavy exchange of firing between the two sides for around one hour before the unknown armed persons fled to a thick jungle, taking advantage of darkness or low light.
At least four personnel of 3rd Assam Rifles sustained injuries in the attack and they were evacuated from the spot using helicopter for treatment at Leimakhong military hospital, according to the sources.
Soon after the incident, a reinforcement team of security personnel rushed to the spot and carried out a massive search operation in the suspected area.
However, there is no report of any recovery or arrest till the time of filing this report.
