IMPHAL, Dec 10: After a series of flight cancellations by Indigo which created a lot of hardships to travellers, flight operations at Imphal Airport have normalised.
Speaking to media persons this afternoon, Imphal International Airport Director Chipemmi Keishing said that the whole country experienced a chaotic situation following a series of Indigo flight cancellations from December 2.
The situation has normalised from today, the airport Director said.
In total, 13 Indigo flights operating to and from Imphal Airport were cancelled between December 2 and 10, leading to a temporary decline in the airline’s On-Time Performance (OTP) to 37 per cent during the period, he said.
Indigo has processed and cleared refunds for all affected passengers up to December 9, 2025.
However, Indigo is yet to deliver 13 baggages. Out of these 13 baggages, 10 should be taken from Imphal Airport and delivered to other airports while the other three should be brought to Imphal, Chipemmi Keishing said.
Even though Indigo cancelled a number of flights, no other airline flights at Imphal Airport including Air India Express and Alliance Air were cancelled and their scheduled operations continued smoothly, he said.
Considering the hardships faced by travellers following cancellation of flights by Indigo, Imphal Airport talked with Alliance Air and additional flights were operated from Imphal to Guwahati and Kolkata from December 6 to 8, he said.
Indigo too operated an additional flight from Imphal to Kolkata on December 9, he said.
To support passengers affected by the cancellations, the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Imphal Airport implemented a series of proactive and passenger-centric measures.
A dedicated control room was opened and real-time flight updates were provided, the airport Director said.
Additional seats were arranged, deployed augmen- ted team comprising of AAI staff, “May I Help You” team and CISF personnel to guide and assist passengers round the clock.
Regular flight status updates were shared across social media platforms and through the control room.
Stranded passengers were provided essential amenities including food items, medicines, sanitary items and other necessary support.
To respond to any requirement, airport manpower and facilities were ensured operational readiness 24X7, Chipemmi Keishing said.
On behalf of AAI, Imphal Airport, he extended sincere appreciation to all passengers for their patience, cooperation and understanding during the chaotic period of flight cancellations.
Imphal Airport is committed to providing safe, efficient and passenger-friendly services at all times, he said.
For any information, assistance or support at Imphal Airport, passengers may contact the designated control centre at 9402880368, he added.
