IMPHAL, Dec 9: Former Minister Irengbam Hemo-chandra has said that joining the National People’s Party (NPP) is a new political journey and a new chapter.
I Hemochandra who was recently appointed National vice president of NPP shortly after joining the party arrived at Imphal airport and he was accorded a warm reception by leaders of NPP Manipur State unit and his supporters from Singjamei AC.
Speaking to media persons at the airport, Hemochandra said that he was thinking on how to lead Manipur to the right direction from the current turmoil even though he remained silent from the political arena during the last couple of years.
“Since the past, I had a liking for NPP, nurtured by late PA Sangma and currently led by his son Conrad K Sangma”, he said.
Hemochandra said that he joined NPP as he was quite impressed by the vision of one North East conceptualised by NPP leader Conrad Sangma and Pradyot Manikya of Tipra Motha at a summit held at Agartala recently.
The vision of one North East is a very positive development. Once this vision materialises, a collective voice of the North East can be articulated and impressed upon Delhi.
At present, Centre pays little or no attention to the many issues plaguing Manipur and other North Eastern States.
If there is a strong common platform for the North East, Centre will not be able to help but listen to the issues of the region, Hemochandra said.
He said that he would work in the interest of the people of Manipur and to lead the State to a brighter future.
Ex-MLA Soibam Subashchandra was among the people who received Hemochandra at Imphal Airport.
