IMPHAL, Dec 10 : Saying that just 22 days remain for the Government to act on its assurance to complete the resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs), the IDPs, supported by COCOMI, have submitted a memorandum to the Governor and the Chief Secretary reminding them to launch a full-scale resettlement operations across all affected districts, with measurable daily progress.
The IDPs also urged the Government to release an official resettlement roadmap, detailing timelines, priority villages and implementation mechanisms and provide adequate administrative and security support to ensure safe and dignified return to their native places.
Thousands of families are still confined in relief camps, they said and added there is no substantial or district wide resettlement effort visible to the people.
The IDPs also said that reconstruction of homes, restoration of basic infrastructure and coordinated resettlement arrangements remain minimal to non-existent in most areas.
The absence of a clear roadmap, transparent communication and visible progress despite the reconstitution of a high level committee on rehabilitation and resettlement has led to deepening frustration among the displaced population, they said and added that their relay sit in protests will continue until meaningful and verifiable progress is witnessed on the ground.
