IMPHAL, Dec 9: The United Senior Citizen Forum 43-Phungyar Kendra has written to the Commissioner and Chief Engineer of the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department urging them to expedite the tender process of projects under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
In its letter, the senior citizens' forum said the suspension of PMGSY tender "due to pressure from certain vested contractors" has disrupted developmental activities.
The condition of roads in Manipur has deteriorated to a pathetic state. The roads in the hills in particular are in extremely poor condition. If the works remain on hold, the condition of the roads will deteriorate even further, said the forum. It urged the authorities to expedite the PMGSY tender, and ensure completion of the projects in the interest of public.
