UKHRUL, Dec 10 : Two houses in Ukhrul town were reduced to cinders by a blazing inferno today at around 1 pm.
According to eyewitnesses, smoke was seen billowing from the wooden house and an LPG cylinder subsequently exploded. The flames then engulfed the neighbouring house close to the raging fire.
The owner of the wooden house, Miranda Shimrah, shared that the fire could have started from a short circuit. It has completely reduced three rooms to ashes.
She maintained that property worth Rs 12-14 lakh including TV, laptop, furniture, clothes and gold kept in the house were all destroyed in the fire.
Meanwhile, the owner of the other house, Casemi Phazang, said that four rooms on the first floor of his house were completely razed. Furniture, clothes and other valuable items including Rs 30,000 in cash were burnt to ashes, according to Casemi. The timely arrival of Ukhrul Fire Brigade, Assam Rifles Jawan and the active participation of youth from the neighbouring localities helped douse the fire, preventing it from spreading further.
According to an available source, a report of the fire incident has been submitted to the Ukhrul police station.
