IDPs petition Murmu

IMPHAL, Dec 11 : Six committees representing internally displaced people (IDPs) have submitted a joint memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu, outlining a series of demands to resolve the crisis besetting Manipur.
The memorandum was submitted Churachandpur Meitei United Committee (CMUC), Meitei Council Moreh (MCM), Committee on Protection of Meitei Victims, Moreh (COPMeV), Torbung Gram Panchayat Victim Committee (TGPVC), Meitei Union Kangpokpi District (MUKD) and Apex Committee of Victim Villages (Ekou, Sadu, Yengkhuman, Dolaithabi, Leitanpokpi, Mairenpat).
These committees, highlighting the plights of the IDPs, urged the President to initiate a dialogue between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities under the guidance of the Government of India to restore last peace and communal harmony in the State.
They also urged the President to make necessary arrangements for the safe and secure return of IDPs to their respective villages.
Deploy IRB Battalion at Moreh, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi and establish security check posts every 5 Km along vulnerable routes to prevent recurrence of violence, they urged.
Thousands of homes belonging to Meitei residents in different areas including Churachandpur, Moreh, Kangpokpi, Imphal East etc were demolished during the aggression by Kuki-Zo community, they said, demanding that the Centre and Government of Manipur reconstruct these houses with a fixed deadline.
For families with land pattas, construction must take place on their original land, they said and urged the Government to construct permanent homes for non pattadars including those living on rent, village community land, mission compounds or informal village land  on allotted Government land.
They also said that  no monetary compensation should be used as a substitute for actual house construction.
Moreover, these committees urged the President to provide adequate compensation for the loss of properties, livelihood and assets destroyed amid the crisis.
Provide suitable Government jobs to eligible members of IDP families and for those not eligible, ensure inclusion in livelihood and self employment programmes to  help rebuild their future, they further demanded.
