President lands at Imphal

Imphal, Dec 11 : President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Imphal today for a two-day visit, calling for peace and development in the strife-torn State.
She was received by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and other officials of the State Government.
The President was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour at Imphal Airport by a women’s contingent of the Indian Reserved Battalion before departing for Lok Bhavan (Raj Bhavan), Imphal.
The President later visited the historic Mapal Kangjeibung and witnessed a polo exhibition match.
She later attended a civic reception programme at City Convention Centre, Imphal organised by the Government.
At the function, the President laid the foundation stones of 14 projects amounting to Rs 1,180 crore. She also inaugurated 12 projects worth Rs 207 crore.
Among the projects which the President laid foundation stones and inaugurated cover a wide range of areas like infrastructure, handloom and handicrafts, tourism, electricity, drinking water, security and administration and health and sports.
During her address, the President said that the projects which were inaugurated today will generate employment, improve infrastructure and accelerate economic activity.
They reflect the Government's commitment to inclusive development and empowerment of the people of Manipur, she added.
“I am aware of the pain that the people of Manipur have gone through following the unfortunate violence. I want to assure you that taking care of the concerns of the people of Manipur is the highest priority for us. My Government stands with every affected family,” the President said.
She further stated that the Union Government remains fully committed to strengthening harmony, ensuring security, and supporting Manipur in its journey towards stability and prosperity.
The Government is also committed to ensure equitable development across the State and will ensure that the fruits of development and progress reach each and every corner of the State, she said.
The President further said the people of Manipur are talented and hardworking.
“I am sure that the people from the valley and the hills will remain together with renewed harmony and take the State to great heights of prosperity and happiness,” the President added.
 Droupadi Murmu urged the people of Manipur to continue supporting measures for harmony and development.
During the civic reception programme, the Governor  reiterated developmental steps taken up by the Government of Manipur in several sectors.
As part of the function, the President was gifted a Moirang Phee which is a famous hand-woven textile from Manipur, known for its distinctive border design and a painting of the Sagol Kangjei.
Later, the President witnessed cultural programmes.
On Friday, the President will pay tribute to heroes of Nupi Lan  on the occasion of the 86th Nupi Lan Memorial Day in Imphal and travel to Senapati district, where she is scheduled to address a public gathering and launch development initiatives.
