Vijay Merchant Trophy Elite Group C Manipur 38/6 at stumps on Day 1 after bundling out Assam for 202 runs in first innings

IMPHAL, Dec 12 : Manipur closed out the first day with a struggling 38/6 in 24 overs after bundling out Assam for a low first innings total of 202 runs in their second Elite Group C encounter of Vijay Merchant Trophy at KIIT Cricket Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
Asked to bat first, Assam faced a stiff opposition from the State bowling attack led by Elangbam Chingamba and Mutum Swabhiman and slumped to 202 all out within 66 overs as wickets kept tumbling in regular intervals.
Swarnav Srihit Guru Das 52 off 109 (5 fours) and Nihal Baishya 45 off 128 (6 fours and 1 six) were the only eminent batters for Assam in their innings as Chingamba emerged Manipur’s pick of the bowlers with a haul of four wickets (4/25) in his spell of 15 overs.
Swabhiman meanwhile enjoyed a three wicket haul (3/30 in 18 overs) and Sagolshem Bush (2/22 in 7 overs) and Akoijam Distaraj (1/17 in 4 overs) shared 3 wickets.
Continuing the day, Manipur had a disastrous start and slumped to 34/6 in 21.5 overs before closing out the day at 38/6 with Swabhiman 19 not out and Md Zuned 1 not out batting.
Manipur lost Tyrus on a 3-ball duck to Nitrik Raj before registering any score in the first over itself before Aman Yadav dismissed incoming Chingamba on 1 in the 6th over as the scoreboard read 3.
Borish was trapped lbw on 4 off 23 for the third wicket in the 10th over by Praneet Pagaria who also dismissed Yohenba in the similar fashion in the 12th over to make it 13/4. Incoming Ngambarel had also a short stay as he was bowled out by Prince Bora for an 8-ball duck before Aman Yadav bowled Romesh for a 33-ball 3.
