Nupi Lan race mirrors resilience of womenfolk

IMPHAL, Dec 12: Over 1,300 women participated in the 34th State Level Nupi Lan Ningsing Lamjel today.
The Lamjel (run), participated by womenfolk of different communities, was flagged off by Singjamei AC MLA Yumnam Khemchand from the Nupi Lan Memorial Complex and concluded at Singjamei Supermarket.
Later, a large number of people including the womenfolk paid floral tributes at the Nupi Lan memorial at Singjamei Supermarket, where Nupi Lan memorial day was observed.
MLA Y Khemchand, Kabui Dharma Sava Manipur secretary Gangmei Sana, State Level Nupi Lan Ningsing Lamjel Organising Committee president S Medini and many other community leaders and eminent personalities attended the observance.
Awards were distributed to winners of the memorial run.
Soraisam Shyama (88) was the oldest person to participate in the run. In the age group 35 to 45 category, Ningombam Sunita, Sanabam Rina Leima and Nongthombam Nivarani bagged the first, second and third prize respectively.
In the age group 46-59 category, Ahanthem Joymati bagged the first prize, and Kangjam Madhabi bagged the second prize. Ningombam Silpa and Saikhom Bideshini bagged the third prize.
In the above 60 category, Wangkheimayum Subita, Thoudam Akasini and Naorem Subashini bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Y Khemchand called on all communities to foster peaceful coexistence and promote "idea of Manipur". Conflicts affect the economy, developmental works, education, health and all spheres of life, he said, urging members of all communities residing in Manipur to work collectively toward restoring normalcy.
