Nupi Lan observed

IMPHAL, Dec 12: United Mother's Organisation (UMO), Manipur Women's Federation (MWF), Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup (MKNM) and Khuman Uni-ted Club & Meira Paibi Association (KUCMA) observed the 86th Nupi Lan Memorial Day at N Tomchou Higher Secondary School ground, Mayang Imphal today.
The event was held under the aegis of the Fede- ration of Civil Society Organisations Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, UMO president Moirangthem Sorojini Leima opined that observing a single Nupi Lan Memorial Day for two Nupi Lan that occurred in Manipur's history may cause confusion in the future.
The First Nupi Lan (1904) was against forced labour (Lallup system), and the Second Nupi Lan (December 12, 1939) was against export of rice and artificial famine.
Observing a single memorial for two different incidents may cause confusion among future generations and scholars, she said. To teach and familiarise the public and younger generations on the first and second Nupi Lan, a public seminar may be organised, she said.
Every effort must be taken up to preserve the correct history for the future. Manipur, as a society will succeed only when the right history is taught, she added.
