IMPHAL, Dec 12: Zeliangrong civil organizations have expressed "deep concern" over their "exclusion" from the State Level Orange Festival, which is scheduled to kick off from December 17 to 19.
Despite the festival being a significant event for all the people of Manipur, relevant Zeliangrong organizations have been completely ignored. If not rectified before December 14 (4 pm), the festival may be boycotted, said the organisations.
The organisations include Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN), Zeliangrong Union (AMN), All Zeliangrong Students Union (AMN), Zeliangrong Youth Front (AMN), Rongmei Naga People Organization (AMN), Kabui Mothers Association and Zeliangrong Football Association. In a joint statement, the organisations said the "exclusion" of the Zeliangrong bodies is "discriminatory" and it reflects a "sinister and divisive approach that threatens to create misunderstanding, mistrust and disunity within Zeliangrong society."
The Orange Festival is meant to celebrate collectivity and not serve vested interest of a few individuals, they said.
"The lackadaisical attitude and disrespect toward the Zeliangrong community by the Tamenglong district administration and personal attitude towards Zeliangrong CSOs is very condemnable," they added.
Accusing the Tamenglong Deputy Commissioner and the State Government of trying to sideline the Zeliangrong people, they said, the authorities must adopt an inclusive approach by consulting all relevant Zeliangrong organizations in organising the festival. Failure to include Zeliangrong organizations in the upcoming Orange Festival 2025 before 4 pm of December 14 may invite boycott of the festival and non-cooperation by the Zeliangrong people, they said.
