Vijay Merchant Trophy Elite Group C Manipur suffer an innings and 47-run loss to Assam

IMPHAL, Dec 13 : Manipur slumped to an innings and 47-run loss to Assam in their second Elite Group C match of the Vijay Merchant Trophy on the second day at KIIT Cricket Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
Resuming the day at 38/6 (in 24 overs) with Swabhiman 19 (off 35) and Md Zuned 1 on the crease, State batters were left stunned by Assam's accurate bowling attack and slumped to 52 all out  within 37.2 overs.
Swabhiman emerged the highest run getter for Manipur in the innings on 19 runs off 54 balls as rest of the players departed cheaply with single digit scores as Praneet Pagaria returned with a fifer (5/26), Aman Yadav enjoyed a three wicket haul (3/6) and two others shared  the other two wickets.
Asked to follow on, Manipur batters faltered yet again and were dismissed for 103 runs within 38.4 overs as Aman Yadav (3/15 in 5 overs), Praneet Pagaria (3/25), and Sameer Mahato (2/16 in 9 overs) shared 8 wickets among them while Nitrik Raj Gogoi and Prince Bora picked a wicket apiece.
Manipur’s Md Zuned who came in at number 8 was unbeaten on 47 off 61 balls in the innings as he ran out of partners. Chingamba 23 off 59 and Ngambarel 19 off 39 also managed double digit scores in the innings.
Earlier yesterday, Elangbam Chingamba (4/25 in 15 overs), M Swabhiman (3/30 in 18 overs), Sagolshem Bush (2/22 in 7 overs), and A Distaraj (1/17 in 4 overs) shared 10 wickets to bundle out Assam for 202 runs in the first innings that saw Swarnav Srihit Guru Das 52 off 109 (5 fours), Nihal Baishya 45 off 128 (6 fours and 1 six), and Subham Biswas 17 off 28 (3 fours) making major contributions.
Manipur will play Mumbai in the next match at the same venue from December 18.
