Justice M Sundar, Chief Justice, High Court of Mani-pur & patron-in-chief, MASLSA inspected the sitting of National Lok Adalat at Lamphel Court Complex.
He was accompanied by Justice A Guneshwar Shar-ma, Judge, High Court of Manipur, Ojesh Mutum, Registrar General, High Court of Manipur; Alek Muivah, Member Secretary, MASLSA & other officers.
During the inspection, the Chief Justice handed over Lok Adalat Awards to some of the parties and congratulated them for successfully resolving their disputes through the platform of Lok Adalat.
He also appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders for their active participation in the National Lok Adalat.
Addressing media persons, the Chief Justice stated that as per the calendar issued by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) for the year 2025, three National Lok Adalats were held earlier on 10th March, 10th May and 13th September, 2025, and today marked the fourth and final National Lok Adalat for the year 2025
A total of 4,923 cases were listed before 13 benches across the State in all nine Judicial Districts of Manipur, including Jiribam & one bench at the High Court, said a press release issued by MASLSA.
Chief Justice M Sundar observed that, since the year, 2021, with the exception of the year 2023, there has been a steady increase in both the number of cases taken up and the value of settlements.
He noted that a friendly atmosphere prevailed and it facilitated easy settlement at the Lok Adalat.
Emphasising effective coordination, the Chief Justice highlighted that officers from banks and financial institutions with proper settle- ment mandates were pre-sent, enabling on-the-spot resolutions.
He cited an instance where a microfinance bank officer was authorised to waive up to 45% of the outstanding amount, leading to immediate settlement.
The Chief Justice further explained that unlike regular Court proceedings, Lok Adalat proceedings are not adversarial in nature. Parties voluntarily arrive at a mutually acceptable settlement, and the award passed is final and binding, with no provision for appeal.
The cases listed in today’s National Lok Adalat included both pre-litigation and civil cases pending before the Courts such as bank recovery cases, matrimonial disputes, MACT cases, civil cases and telephone bill matters.
