IMPHAL, Dec 13 : A vigilance enquiry and a retirement case involving Nungba Assembly Constituency (AC) MLA Dinganglung (Dipu) Gangmei may be reopened for investigation, according to a well-placed source.
The source continued that the High Court of Manipur, on December 19, 2022, set aside the orders previously issued by both the Centre and the State Government that had allowed Gangmei to retire.
The Court also directed the revival of the closure report of a vigilance case against the MLA.
This development comes after the Governor's Secretariat directed the Department of Personnel and the Vigilance Department to submit an action-taken report for the High Court's directives.
According to the source, there are allegations that Dipu Gangmei misappropriated funds sanctioned by the 14th Finance Commission during his tenure as the Chief Executive Officer of the Autonomous District Council, Tamenglong.
As a result, a case was filed with the Lokayukta, prompting investigations by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department.
However, the case was closed on January 11, 2022, and both the Centre and the State Government allowed him to retire. The source continued that Dipu Gangmei's position as MLA could become questionable if the Government's decision to allow his retirement is cancelled, particularly in light of the office of profit provision
