Meitei, Kuki MLAs jointly attend meeting Delhi meet focuses on peace, not Govt formation

IMPHAL, Dec 14 : Putting to rest for now the widespread anticipation surrounding the formation of a popular Government in Manipur, the meeting convened by the BJP's high command in New Delhi with party MLAs, drawn from all communities including Meiteis and Kukis, focused primarily on restoring peace and normalcy in the State.
The meeting, which began around 5.30 pm and lasted until approximately 7.30 pm, was participated by BJP National general secretary (organization) BL Santosh and North East Coordinator Sambit Patra.
During the meeting, the Central leadership emphasized the importance of cooperation among party MLAs to ensure free and safe movement across the hills and valleys of Manipur.
While the meeting did not address the formation of a popular Government, the BJP high command indicated its readiness to do so once free and safe movement is restored throughout the State.
As summoned, the meeting was attended by 34 of the 37 BJP MLAs, including Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Satyabrata, former Chief Minister N Biren  Singh, four BJP Kuki MLAs viz Nemcha Kipgen (Kangpokpi), Ngursanglur Sanate (Tipaimukh), LM Khaute (Churachandpur), and Letzamang Haokip (Henglep) and  party president of Manipur unit A Sharda Devi.
However, three Kuki BJP MLAs Letpao Haokip (Tengnoupal), Paolienlal Haokip (Saikot), and Vungzagin Valte (Thanlon) were absent from the meeting.
According to reports received by The Sangai Express, Letpao Haokip and Vungzagin Valte were unable to attend the meeting due to health reasons, while Paolienlal Haokip was absent following the death of a family member.
The other MLAs who attended the meeting were Th Satyabrata (Yaiskul), N Bi-ren (Heingang), L Susindro (Khurai), Th Biswajit (Thongju), L Rameshwar (Keirao), Th Shyamkumar (Andro), Th Ibomcha (Lamlai), Kh Joykisan (Thangmeiband), Kh Raghumani (Uripok), RK Imo (Sagolband), Y Khemchand (Singjamei), Th Arunkumar (Wangkhei), H Dingo (Sekmai), S Rajen (Lamsang), Dr S Ranjan (Konthoujam), S Kunjakeswor (Patsoi), Karam Shyam (Langthabal), S Kebi (Naoriya Pakhanglakpa), K Robindro (Mayang Imphal), Th Basantakumar (Nambol), Govindas Konthoujam (Bishnupur), T Robindro (Thanga), S Premchandra (Kumbi), Th Radheshyam (Heirok), P Brojen (Wangjing Tentha), Dr U Deben (Wabagai), Dr Y Radheshyam (Hiyanglam), Md Achab Uddin (Jiribam), SS Olish (Chandel) and Dinganlung Gangmei (Nungba).
Some MLAs who attended the meeting told this paper that the gathering convened by the Central leadership would play a pivotal role in restoring normalcy in the State.
They stated that the party's high command instructed all BJP MLAs in Manipur to work together to facilitate the resettlement of internally displaced people and ensure free and safe movement across the State. Stating that the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, currently under suspension, will automatically dissolve after one year if no popular Government is formed by February 13, they added that the Central leadership has indicated its readiness to install an inclusive Government once free movement is restored.
Some MLAs also expressed confidence that a popular Government will be formed by January 15, 2026.
It is reported that the Kuki MLAs praised the party's high command for convening the meeting with all party MLAs to discuss the situation in Manipur and the way forward.
Another source mentioned that the Kuki MLAs held a separate meeting with party leaders in New Delhi.
The MLAs are scheduled to return to Manipur after attending a felicitation ceremony for the newly appointed BJP National president tomorrow.
