Japanese language training centre to come at MU

IMPHAL, Dec 15 : In a landmark initiative to empower youth in Manipur with global career opportunities, NSDC International Limited (NSDCI) and Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development (DVSSD), Manipur University have signed an agreement to establish a Japanese Language Training Centre at Manipur University.
According to a press release, this collaboration aims to prepare young candidates from Manipur for employment in Japan’s high-demand sectors such as healthcare, hospitality, agriculture, and manufacturing, under the Government-to-Government (G2G) agreements between India and Japan.
The agreement was signed by Alok Kumar, CEO of NSDC International Limited and Professor M Premjit Singh, Registrar, MU in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Professor N Lokendra Singh; N Bandana Devi, IAS, Secretary, Skill, Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship (SLEE); Professor Memcha Loitongbam, Dean, School of Social Sciences, MU; Professor A Rajmani Singha, Director, IQAC, MU; Anshul Singhal, Deputy General Manager, NSDCI; Masotmi Zimik, State Engagement Officer, NSDC, and Dr N Amulkumar, Head Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development and faculty members of DVSSD.
The Centre is reportedly going to start its first batch from January 2026, while Japanese companies will come to Imphal in February 2026 for recruitment.
In the first year, the training centre will have a capacity of 250 candidates, with scope for expansion in subsequent years.
The duration of the training will be 8-9 months, consisting of intensive Japanese language training (JLPT N5/N4), sector-specific skills and cultural orientation. It will cost Rs 1,10,000 in fees, supported through Skill Loans and instalment options. Candidates will be prepared for Japanese language proficiency exams (JLPT, NAT, JFT-Basic) and skill assessments under the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) program.
Meanwhile, during the discussion on the NSDCI–MU Japanese Language Training Centre and future international opportunities, the Centre’s strategic role in enhancing global employability of Manipuri youth through structured language training, cultural orientation, and overseas placement pathways were highlighted.
