IMPHAL, Dec 16 : The Government can't increase or decrease the number of flights on any route. It is upto airline operators to introduce air services to/from any airport in the country, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol has said in the Rajya Sabha.
The MoS said this while answering to queries raised by MP Leishemba Sana-jaoba on December 15.
The MP had enquired whether there is any possibility to increase the number of flights to and from Imphal to nearby Metropolitan cities.
He also inquired whether there is any plan of the Government to cap equal fare rate throughout the country in all sectors
Answering the questions, Murlidhar Mohol said the Indian domestic aviation was deregulated with the repeal of the Air Corporations Act in March 1994.
Airlines are free to induct capacity with any aircraft type, free to select whatever markets and network they wish to service. Hence, it is upto the airline operators to introduce air services to/from any airport in the country depending on their operational and commercial viability, said Murlidhar Mohol.
On the question about capping airfare, the Minister said airfares are not subject to regulation by the Government.
Airlines have the flexibility to determine their airfares based on their operational needs, while adhering to Rule 135 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, he said.
