IMPHAL, Dec 17 : Socio-political commentator Chongtham Bijoy has expressed concern about the possible application of the "deep state" theory in Manipur to incapacitate the Meitei community and balkanise the State.
Addressing the media at his residence at Lamphel Khunou today, Bijoy continued that the situation in Manipur should not be taken lightly, as external forces and powerful individuals are involved in efforts to divide the State.
He said that Manipur, being a border State, holds a strategic position, particularly from a military perspective.
The Government has been making sustained efforts to manipulate Manipur, possibly for geopolitical reasons to control neighbouring countries, he said and added that it is the responsibility of every indigenous community to stand against the forces trying to break the State through coercion.
Reiterating that some invisible forces are at play to break Manipur, he stated that all indigenous communities must unite, especially at this critical juncture.
The application of the "deep state" theory is not limited to Manipur but is evident across the entire North East, Bijoy claimed and maintained that the deep state’s first targets are the economy, culture, and education.
The State's leaders are unable to act independently, he said and questioned how they will safeguard Manipur when all they do is wait for instructions from the Centre.
Manipur is today  the most troubled State as the State leaders have surrendered their power to New Delhi, Bijoy said.
Whether it is the BJP or Congress, Manipur has been controlled by New Delhi since it gained Statehood in 1972, Bijoy said.
He also said that efforts are being made to create divisions among the Meiteis.
Stating that the ongoing crisis in Manipur is also a result of the "deep state" theory, he emphasised that it is time for everyone to come together and identify the inimical force.
