IMPHAL, Dec 17: A comprehensive review meeting of National Highway projects in North East States will be held at Guwahati on January 12 and 13, 2026 in the presence of head of the States and all relevant authorities, MoRTH Minister Nitin Gadkari has said in the Parliament.
The Minister for Ministry of Road Transport and Highways informed this while answering to a question raised by MP Leishemba Sanajaoba today.
During the supplementary question hour, MP Leishemba Sanajaoba asked the MoRTH Minister about steps being taken up to improve the National Highways in Manipur.
The Rajya Sabha MP said the National Highways in Manipur are in very bad and pitiful conditions with extortion and restriction on travel.
The MP was referring to illegal taxes collected by outfits on the Highways, and inability of the valley people to freely and safely travel on the Highways. He asked the Minister what positive measures the Ministry will take in the future to resolve the problems.
Replying to the question, Nitin Gadkari said there were difficulties in implementing National Highway projects due to the law and order situation in the last 2 years.
The law and order in Manipur was such that contractors' equipment and machinery were burnt. The contractors ran away (abandoned the projects), he said.
Amid difficulties, coordinated efforts were put in, and some of the projects were completed, he added.
The Union Minister further informed that a comprehensive review meeting of NH projects being implemented in NE States will be held on January 12 and 13, 2026 at Guwahati.
Chief Ministers of NE States and Governor of Manipur and all relevant authorities will be invited to the review meeting which will go through project by project to resolve every issue, Gadkari said. He further requested MP Leishemba Sanajaoba to submit letters to his office for prompt reply and resolution to his questions regarding the National Highways in Manipur.
