IMPHAL, Dec 17: Condemning the attack at Torbung and Phougakchao Ikhai yesterday, internally displaced persons (IDPs) blocked roads at New Checkon today.
IDPs thronged the New Checkon traffic island and restricted vehicular movement.
During the protest, the IDPs said the attack occurred due to complete failure of the President's Rule administration.
The attack occurred within hours of the internally displaced persons returning to the original homes. It was a complete failure of the Government and security forces responsible for the safety of the public, said Sharmila, an internally displaced person.
She accused the Government of remaining a mute spectator when civilians, internally displaced persons are being attacked at their homes with bombs.
The attack on civilian population at Torbung and Phougakchao Ikhai has exposed the failure of the PR administration in its attempt to recover arms and ammunition from the hands of miscreants and militants, Sharmila said.
The attack has exposed that the Kuki militants still have guns and bombs despite the Governor's strong warning to surrender all weapons, she added.
"Heeding to the Governor's call, valley youths have surrendered all their weapons. But, it seems the Governor and his administration have failed to recover arms from the Kuki militants," Sharmila said.
It is the responsibility of the PR administration and security forces to ensure safety and security of the IDPs and allow peaceful resettlement, she said, demanding immediate and strict action against the perpetrators of the attack.
