The Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) organised its commendation ceremony at Lamphel Court complex today.
The programme was graced by Chief Justice of  High Court of Manipur cum Patron in Chief Justice of MASALSA M Sundar and Judges of High Court  of Manipur Justice A Bimol and Justice A Guneshwar Sharma as chief guest and guests of honour respectively.
Addressing the function, Chief Justice M Sundar emphasised that justice is not only defined by judgments delivered or cases disposed of, but also by the timely legal advice provided to distressed citizens, resolution of disputes through dialogue rather than discord, informing of jail inmates about their rights, and encouragement of victims to seek legal help.
Stating that the Constitution should not be confined to the Courts alone, he maintained that the rule of law is a living instrument meant to guide society.
He also stated that the credibility of legal services depends on its ability to remain inclusive and transparent.
Justice is meant for everyone, including the most underprivileged, the Chief Justice emphasised.
While Judicial officers and legal service functionaries are commended today, it is equally important to recognize the role of Para Legal Volunteers, mediators, and Lok Adalat functionaries, he said and added these professionals carry the message of legal remedies to those who might otherwise remain excluded from the justice system and demonstrate that disputes can also be resolved through dialogue.
Congratulating all the awardees, he commended MASALSA for organising the programme.
MASALSA member secretary  Alek Muivah and  officers and staff of different legal services authorities also attended the programme among others.
