IMPHAL, Dec 18: Taking strong exception to the PR administration’s failure to take any decisive action against armed Kukis even after displaced families who had started going back to their homes were attacked with sophisticated firearms and bombs, the Manipur Apunba Ima (MUA) has asked Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to step down.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, MUA advisor Ph Ranibala vehemently condemned the fierce attack carried out by armed Kukis against the displaced people of Phougakchao Ikhai and Torbung as they began resettling at their homes on December 16, 2025.
Contrary to the public expectation that the President’s Rule will bring peace and normalcy in the State, armed Kukis have resumed violence and aggression, targeting innocent Meiteis, she said.
Yet, the PR administration has not yet taken up any decisive action against the armed Kukis who have been jeopardising all efforts towards peace, normalcy and resettlement, Ranibala said.
She urged the Government of India to send a new Governor if the incumbent is not in a position to take any decisive action against the armed Kukis who have been openly challenging the State authority.
She said that all the MLAs of Manipur Legislative Assembly, barring the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs are all cowards.
It is a matter of grave concern that none of the MLAs has spoken a single word even after armed Kukis have started attacking innocent villagers one again with full force, she remarked.
Asking if the MLAs have no intention to bring an end to the protracted crisis, Ranibala urged the MLAs to step down and dissolve the State Assembly if they are not in a position to form an elected Government and protect Manipur.
It was security lapses and laxity which enabled armed Kukis to come out openly and attack Meitei villagers at Phougakchao Ikhai, she said.
Denouncing the Security Advisor’s failure to take any decisive action even after armed Kukis made it clear they were deliberately attacking Meitei villagers, the MUA advisor demanded the resignation of the Security Advisor too.
All the arms and weapons of Meiteis have been seized by the Government. Moreover, the Government has registered FIRs and arrested many Meitei youth who volunteered to protect Manipur.
At the same time, the Government has been watching silently when Kukis remain armed to the teeth and have once again started attacking Meiteis, she pointed out.
It’s time to identify those elements who have been creating division and animosity between the Meiteis and Kukis, Ranibala said.
She also hailed Malem Thongam on successfully completing a bicycle tour for peace in Manipur all the way from Delhi to Imphal.
Meanwhile, the Pukhao Terapur Women Welfare Association has asserted that the Government would not have remained silent if it were Meiteis who attacked IDPs on returning home.
Condemning the fierce attack carried out by ‘Kuki terrorists’ on IDPs at Torbung and Phougakchao Ikhai on December 16, 2025, Pukhao Terapur Women Welfare Association staged a protest demonstration at Pukhao, Imphal East today.
Pukhao Terapur Women Welfare Association vice-president Seram Ibemcha said that even though Meitei youth who volunteered to defend villages from Kuki aggression have been completely disarmed by the Government, the Government is yet to recover the arms and weapons which are in the possession of Kukis.
This was testified by the recent attack at Phougakchao Ikhai and Torbung, she said.
