Foundation day of JNIMS held

IMPHAL, Dec 18 : The joint celebration of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences' (JNIMS) 18th Annual Foundation Day and JNIMS Dental College's 9th Foundation Day was held in the presence of Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla today.
Held at the auditorium hall of JNIMS, the occasion highlights JNIMS’s sustained progress in strengthening tertiary healthcare services and its continued efforts towards achieving excellence among leading medical institutions, said a press release issued by the Governor's Secretariat.
Sumant Singh, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, and Professor L Usharani Devi, Director, JNIMS, were also present at the ceremony.
As part of the programme, Governor released the 18th Annual Report and the college magazine, Nongin.
Governor Bhalla, along with the Commissioner and Director, presented awards to meritorious students of the institute.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor noted that JNIMS has grown into a leading centre of medical education and tertiary healthcare in Manipur over the past eighteen years.
He highlighted the institute’s significant role in strengthening the State’s healthcare system through the training of skilled professionals and the provision of advanced treatment facilities within Manipur, while underscoring that medical education must be grounded in compassion, ethical values and community service.
Governor Bhalla observed that the role of a medical institution extends beyond hospitals and classrooms to research, innovation, preventive healthcare and public outreach.
He expressed satisfaction over JNIMS’s participation in National and State health programmes, and encouraged the institute to strengthen research, adopt technology and align with National health priorities, expressing confidence that it would achieve greater excellence in the years ahead.
Meanwhile, Sumant Singh stated that JNIMS’s role has been strengthened through its association with several key initiatives of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, including the establishment of a Multi-Disciplinary Research Unit and region-specific cancer research under the Department of Health Research, a Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory network under ICMR, a State Referral Laboratory for Rabies under the National Rabies Control Programme, and a 50-bedded Critical Care Block under the NHM.
The programme was attended by faculty members, doctors, nurses, students, and staff of JNIMS, along with other distinguished guests.
