IMPHAL, Dec 19 : In light of the recent attack by armed Kukis at Torbung and Phougakgao Ikhai, numerous CSOs have come together to demand resettled IDPs to be guarded by village volunteers.
The demand was raised by the Indigenous People Organisation Manipur (IPOM), Meitei Pangal Council Manipur (MPCM), Anouba Senmitlon, Manipur People’s Front (MPF), World Meitei Organisation (WMO) and Progressive Alliance for Leadership and Empowerment of Mothers (PALEM).
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Kh Chandramani Khumancha, vice-president, IPOM, strongly condemned the December 16 attack.
Displaced folks have lost faith in the Government as well as the State and Central forces to protect them from such gun and bomb attacks.
Suggesting resettled villages to be guarded by village volunteers instead, he said that IDPs will feel secure under their protection.
Assuring all possible help from the aforementioned groups to ensure the resettlement of IDPs in their original homes, he also sought the help of the public.
