Cancer treatment now at Tbl DH

THOUBAL, Dec 18 : The District Health Society, Thoubal and District Hospital, Thoubal has announced that cancer treatment facilities and services are available at Day Care Chemotherapy Centre set up under the National Programme for Pre- vention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD) at the hospital.
Speaking to media persons, Dr W Ruhinikumar Singh, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital, Thoubal said this service is available to all cancer patients/survivors.
The Centre was set up as part of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India's programme to allow cancer patients to seek treatment in healthcare institutions close to their homes after being prescribed chemotherapy by oncologists from outside the State or otherwise.
Aside from the chemo injections, even chemo drugs will be given to the patients for free if they are available at the Centre's store/pharmacy.
In case of unavailability, a request will be submitted to the higher authority to make them available at the store, said the MS.
Urging patients to avail the services by consulting with concerned specialists, he shared that the Centre's OPD schedule: Cancer- Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday; Breast Cancer Screening-Thursday and Friday; VIA and Colonoscopy-Monday and Friday and ENT related cancer-Tuesday and Friday.
Dr W Ruhinikumar  added that Tele-Onco Consultation with TATA Hospital Mumbai for haematology and breast cancer was also launched from July, 2025 in a tie-up with National Cancer Grid and TATA Hospital Mumbai.
He urged people to take advantage of the tele-consultation service available at the hospital.
On another note, Dr Y Nokul Singh, Chief Medical Officer/District Mission Director, District Health Society Thoubal shared that ASHA workers, ANMs and CHOs are conducting Population Based Screening (PBS) for cancer through sub-centres, PHCs and CHCs. Patients visiting hospitals are also screened (known as Opportunistic Screening).
Those diagnosed early should seek medical intervention and visit District Hospital, Thoubal for treatment and other necessary services.
Dr Th Sareo, Nodal Officer, DCCC and officials from NCD Cell, Thoubal were also present at the press briefing.
