Labour contractor found hanging

IMPHAL, Dec 21 : A non-local labour contractor of HR Vernas Construction Company Limited was found dead, hanging inside a makeshift kitchen at Heingang Awang Leikai in Imphal this morning. The deceased has been identified as Surjit Sarkar (49), s/o Shachin Sarkar of Chowgacha, Nadia in West Bengal. According to a reliable source, one Prasenjit Karmakar (30) of Lakshmi Sagar, West Bengal lodged a complaint with the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Heingang Police Station, stating that Surjit Sarkar was found hanging at Heingang Awang Leikai.

The body has been deposited at JNIMS morgue for a post-mortem.

Heingang police have registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case.
