Cherry Blossom Fest founder Sahoo conferred Nature Care Award 2025

IMPHAL, Dec 21 : Professor Dinabandhu Sahoo, founder of the Cherry Blossom Festivals of India, has been awarded the Nature Care Award for 2025 in recognition of his exceptional contributions toward providing nature-based solutions to environmental challenges.
The award was given to him by Nature Care Initiative during a function held at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi.
The programme was attended by dignitaries from across the country.
Sahoo, an internationally renowned plant biologist, is widely recognized for his role in designing and launching the renowned Indian Cherry Blossom Festivals in Shillong, Meghalaya, and Manipur in 2016 when he was the Director of the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) located in Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Sikkim.
Sahoo was the first Indian student to visit Antarctica during the 1987-88 Indian Government scientific expedition to Antarctica.
Currently serving as the Head of the Department of Botany and Chairperson of the Research Council at the University of Delhi, Sahoo has been extensively involved in the fields of climate change and bioresource management, particularly in the creation of underwater forests through seaweed cultivation and utilization.
He also has been spreading a movement called “ GROW A TREE FOR LIFE” at the college and university level.
