Winter Tennis Tournament Yoihenba wins beginner boys’ singles title

IMPHAL, Dec 21 : Yoihenba clinched the singles title of the beginner boys’ competition in the Winter Tennis Tournament being organised by IDTA and ASTPAM at IDTA Complex.
Yoihenba got the better of Shanelle 4-7, 7-3, 7-4 in the final to earn the competition title today.
Earlier in the semi-final, Shanelle outlasted Group I winner Mrigesh with a 3-7, 7-5, 7-5 comeback win as Yoihenba knocked out N Tomthin 7-3, 7-2.
Earlier in the Group I Round Robin league competition, Mrigesh beat Lyza 7-2, 7-5 before beating M Tomthin 7-2, 7-5.
M Tomthin meanwhile beat Lyza 7-4, 7-5 to finish group runner up and qualified for the semis along with Mrigesh.
Yoihenba meanwhile topped the Group II league competition by defeating Shanelle 7-2, 7-4 and Tomthin 3-7, 7-5, 7-2. Shanelle on the other hand beat Tomthin 7-5, 7-2 to finish runner up.
U-14 Boys Singles
The day also saw Dhruv, Dhanraj, Singamba and Joel secure first round win to advance to quarterfinals of the U-14 Boys singles competition.
Dhruv eased past Umang 6-1, 6-4 to set up a quarterfinal date with Yoimayai as Dhanraj prevailed 6-0, 6-1 over Giniketan to set up a quarterfinal date with Singam who sealed a 6-3, 6-3 win over Austin in another first round clash.
Joel meanwhile pulled off a 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 comeback win over Suhaan to set up a quarterfinal date with Ranchar.
U-16 Girls Singles
The semi-final line up for the U-16 girls singles competition was also completed today with Gracy getting 6-0, 6-2 past Mehreen in a Round of 8 (first round) clash before Victoria defeated Linthoi 6-4, 6-4.
Gracy will play Merliah, who got a first round bye, in the semi-final while Victoria will take on Shelza, who also got a first round bye, in the other semi-final match.
