Man remanded for circulating obscene content

IMPHAL, Dec 22: A 39-year old habitual offender has been remanded to judicial custody for allegedly creating fake social media accounts and uploading indecent and obscene content of a girl in a group created for circulating sexually explicit materials.
The accused identified as Khundongbam Sunil (39) s/o Meghachandra of Uchol Awang Leikai was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today  after completion of police custody period along with a prayer for judicial custody by a team of Cyber Crime Police Station, Manipur.    
An APP for the State submitted that the enquiry officer submitted a report on December 8 in connection with a complaint lodged by the father of the victim on November 10, 2025 which said that a nude video and photographs of his daughter had been uploaded and circulated in a social media page by the user name ‘Crazy Boy’.
The complainant also mentioned that his daughter is preparing for examination and the circulation of such content caused severe mental trauma to the victim as well as to other family members. The complainant also requested immediate action for removal of the said content from the social media page.
During the course of investigation, the user of the social media account was traced to Uchol Andro area and the accused was arrested on December 18 in connection with the case. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he purchased a SIM card around July 2025 from Malom area for creating a fake media account.
He admitted that he joined several social media groups with his fake account wherein sexually explicit contents were uploaded by various users.
The accused also disclosed he uploaded multiple sexually explicit photographs and videos.
The APP further submitted that the accused was arrested earlier too by Cyber Crime Police Station, Manipur in January 2021 for similar cyber offence, wherein he created a fake social media account and uploaded indecent and obscene contents in a Facebook group created for circulation of such sexually explicit materials.
Even though it has been established that the accused uploaded sexually explicit contents on social media, the source and origin of the contents could not be ascertained at the present stage.
Further investigation into the complete chain of events and possible involvement of other persons is still in process and the alleged accused is required in judicial custody, the APP said. The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the case record, remanded the accused in judicial custody till January 5 next year.
